Definition
Comparing a student's grade level in the spring of one school year to the student's grade level in the fall of the next school year determines grade-level retention. The grade-level retention rate for 2019-20 is the percentage of students who attended in 2019-20 and were retained in grade in the fall of 2020. The grade-level retention rate equation is:

Each file includes three worksheets that can be accessed using the tabs at the bottom of the workbook. In addition to the dataset, each workbook also provides an overview of the data as well as a data dictionary that defines the variable names in the dataset.
