Definition

Comparing a student's grade level in the spring of one school year to the student's grade level in the fall of the next school year determines grade-level retention. The grade-level retention rate for 2013-14 is the percentage of students who attended in 2013-14 and were retained in grade in the fall of 2014. The grade-level retention rate equation is:

Grade-level retention rate equals the number of students enrolled in the same grade from one school year to the next divided by the number of students enrolled from one school year who return the next
